For international applicants from South Asia, Southeast Asia, the UAE and the Gulf region who have built a lawful immigration history in Europe, citizenship or naturalisation may become a realistic long-term consideration — but only after years of legal compliance, residence, and integration. It is not a starting point for the immigration process and it is not a shortcut to any other status.

Citizenship guidance is a long-term service. It is not relevant for applicants at the beginning of their immigration journey. The first step is always lawful legal residence, not citizenship planning.

While conditions for naturalisation vary significantly between European countries, the following factors are commonly reviewed by government authorities when considering a citizenship or naturalisation application. This is not an exhaustive list and is provided for general orientation for any specific case.
- Legal residence history: verifiable continuous lawful residence in the country for the required period under national law
- Minimum residence period: the specific number of years required, which varies by country and may depend on permit type
- Language requirements: demonstrated proficiency in the official language of the country, at the level required by national law
- Integration requirements: civic knowledge, social integration, and other integration criteria where required by national law
- Clean criminal record: absence of criminal convictions in the country of residence and, in some cases, in the country of origin
- Tax and financial compliance: evidence of compliance with tax obligations and financial requirements during the residence period
- Family or ancestry links: where specific national laws provide for reduced requirements based on verified family or ancestry connections
- Government discretion: even where all conditions appear to be met, final citizenship decisions are at the sole discretion of the relevant government authority
